No person in the United States shall, on the basis on sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Title IX is fundamentally about reducing and removing barriers to education based on sex discrimination. How that is interpreted has evolved substantially since 1972. While sexual harassment has become synonymous with Title IX over the past few years, Title IX is so much more.

Notice of Non-Discrimination

Title IX requires all institutions to notify all current and prospective students and employees that the institution does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its education programs or activities, and that it is required by Title IX not to discriminate in such a manner.
